When Jean-Louis Domecq's search for the ideal work lamp for his workshop was unsuccessful, in 1950 he decided to design a lamp that met his high demands in terms of function and robustness. He developed joints with sliding contacts in the interior, with which the arms and the light source could be adjusted completely freely, without having to consider problems with the wiring. The "chunky" joints of the series LOFT and the hemispherical reflector screen with headband gave the lamp the characteristic shape, which later turned it into a popular classic of the French industrial style.
The lamp was a great success and is produced since 1955 under the company name "Jieldé" (based on Domecqs initials JLD). All Jieldé lamps are still elaborately made by hand by the family business in Lyon and powder-coated in a great variety of colors. Each luminaire is given a sticker with a number that identifies it as a single piece and original.
